Day 49 – Count Down to the End Begins

Day 46 was a busy day, with little to show for the effort. Mainly second coats of paint, trim painting, and minor touch-ups. Two days off for the weekend and then Day 49 arrived.

Paul, the carpenter returned. This was the day that the former pantry closet was supposed to be subdivided and get a new life as pantry and a coat closet. Unfortunately, other matters got in the way. While deciding what to do about the misplaced microwave it became apparent that the electrician who installed it was more than a little incompetent. I guess he thought no one would notice.

Rather than drilling through the bottom of the cabinet to accommodate the cord it looks as if he simply punched a hole in it. In the process he split the cabinet. The under cabinet  lights that he installed are almost as poorly done. It remains an open question about how they will be able to hide the rough appearance of the wiring to the under cabinet lighting.

Keith was back today to finish the painting and to install the bath hardware. Before starting on the hardware he called us up from the basement to ask where we wanted various things hung. Despite our explanation the towel bar was installed about 8 inches to the right of where we asked to have it. Now it serves as a door stop as well as a towel bar. Betty is inclined to leave bad enough alone, I am not. Color me “grumpy!”

On a more positive note, the crown mold in the bedroom appears to be perfectly installed. Painting it will have to wait for another day, as will the long awaited transformation of the pantry to a dual use closet.
