Saturday morning we headed out of Sedona to the Grand Canyon. Along the way we stopped at the Oak Creek Overlook so that we could look back down the mountain at the switchback road that we had just traveled. At the overlook we visited the Navajo traders who set up tables to sell jewelry, pottery and Navajo rugs to the tourists.
Further down the road we stopped at Cameron Trading Post. This was the widest spot in the road along our way the Grand Canyon. The trading post dates back to 1906 and has a huge collection of Native American crafts. We ate lunch at the dining room at the trading post – Navajo fry bread topped with strips of beef all covered it rich, brown gravy. Not exactly a diet meal, but delicious.
The dining room at the trading post was beautifully decorated with Native American art. The ceiling was hammered tin. There was a big fireplace, but the added warmth of a fire was not needed during our visit.
