This trip has been years in the making. The first hurdle was convincing me to get on a large boat. Betty tells me that the cruise lines prefer the term “ship.” Every cruise mishap or disaster reported in the past 10 years fueled my impassioned stance against spending valuable vacation time huddled shoulder to shoulder with thousands of anonymous, unchosen fellow travelers. Alas, Betty finally wore me down. So it’s off to sea. More accurately “seas” the Adriatic, the Ionian and the Mediterranean seas. When I go down, I go big.
We will spend a couple of days in Venice first. Betty’s brother, Keith and his wife, Joanne will join us. Betty wants to share her love of Venice with them. We will all then board the Viking Star and head off through 3 seas to visit 6 countries.

Oh, it’ll be fine, and you’ll have a blast!
And if not, you can be inspired by that woman who recently live-tweeted her experiences being stranded on the Viking Sky cruise, taking us all on you adventure with you 🙂
But no, it’ll be an amazing trip, and I can’t wait to see the pictures you come back with!
Pictures! You mean I have to take a camera? Geez, one more thing to pack.
What fun! Tell me how you like being on a cruise ship. I, too, have been very reluctant to take this type of vacation.
You and I are not alone in our cruise phobia. Many of my friends feel the same. Maybe it’s just the ‘birds of a feather’ axiom. Betty is taking her best shot at making this a positive experience so that she can book an Alaskan or a northern lights tour. No NOT the Viking Sky! They’ve actually cancelled that cruise. The North Atlantic in winter – not my idea of fun.
Looking forward to living vicariously through your posts and PICTURES—pack that camera (or at least that iPhone) Love you all!
John, this will be fabulous! Thanks for “taking me along!” And the Palazzo? OMG!!
Can’t wait to see your documentation in pictures!
“Alas, Betty finally wore me down”–pfffffffttttt! Youse will have a great time. Send plenty of updates that will make those of us still working envious! 😉
I’m with you on this one, John. Please let me know if you’ve changed your mind by the end. If so, you might have a chance at changing mine.
Meanwhile, when you’re there, enjoy Spain, Venice and Greece for me. Tell the Pope “Hi”.
I’ll be living vicariously through you and Betty.
So happy for you. Enjoy the ship and your wonderful travel group. Work on earning a “badge” in relaxing and eating (include High Tea in your schedule). Your going to have a great adventure! Pack light so you can take the camera. I look forward to all the pictures.
