When we arrived in Pacific Grove we headed for the Green Gables Inn, our home for the next two days. Green Gables was built in 1888. It is “a Four Sisters Inn.” For the English majors among us, to my knowledge none of the sisters is named Anne.

The Green Gables Inn was the most luxurious B&B of our trip. Notice the Monarch butterfly motif along the fascia boards. Pacific Grove is where the Monarch Butterflies from west of the Rockies spend their winter. A very smart decision for my money. Pacific Grove is beautiful.
A quick walk across the street from the Green Gable Inn provides this view of the Monterey Bay’s coastline.
From the Green Gables Inn, the Monterrey Bay Aquarium is an easy walk along the water front. There is a path just across the street from the Inn that leads to the aquarium. If you choose to walk in the opposite direction you can walk to Point Pinos Lighthouse. From our room, the Jennifer, we had a bit of a view of the ocean.

Green Gables offers an assortment of Teddy Bears to its guests. You can choose your special bear from a shelf of 20+ willing-to-be-adopted bears in the main dining room. For heartless guests who choose not to adopt, a Teddy Bear is assigned and waiting in your room. You can’t avoid the bears as you can see from the bear we found waiting in the Jennifer room.

I think our Teddy Bear found his life without hope or purpose. Maybe he grew weary of the one-night stands with uncaring guests who simply cast him aside the morning after. Perhaps he had been passed over for permanent adoption one too many times. Whatever the reason, he apparently found his life unBEARable. On our last day at Green Gables I had to restrain him as he attempted to throw himself from the second story window. I placed him in the loving care of the Innkeepers. They gave their assurance that he would receive the institutionalized care that he deserved.
