Landmarks are important . . .

Finding your way around outside of the central areas of Venice is challenging. To trace our way back to the apartment Cheryl pointed out a series of landmarks that would guide us home once we got off of San Polo Square. The first turning point is a small Madonna and Child shrine carved into the wall at the end of a short alleyway.

After the last turn you are greeted with the luminous face of some long forgotten woman whose visage adorns the Palazzo across the San Polo Canal from the apartment. Her face appears at the end of a narrow alleyway as you make the final turn toward the apartment. She says, “Welcome. You have arrived home.”
