When Day 21 passed without any word from the project manager I sent a summary of my concerns about schedule slippage to Jason and to Diana (the designer). Jason responded that both he and Diana would be at our house at 8:00 this morning to finalize the schedule and that the carpenter would be there, too. Jason and Paul arrived at 8:45. Diana never showed up nor did she call.
We walked and talked through our concerns with Jason. He assured us that the cabinets would be in by the end of Day 23 and the final window would be in by the end of Day 24. I told him that that scheduled seemed “overly ambitious” in light of past performance and the fact that Paul and Amber both appeared to be suffering from severe colds (flu?). Jason confirmed that they would stay on schedule because “we’re made of tougher stuff.”
Paul and Amber started the day removing all of the doors from the cabinets and individually wrapping each one in ram board. Jason explained that this was The Bath Shop’s standard procedure to assure that the doors weren’t damaged during the remaining days of construction. The doors were trucked up and taken back to Raleigh. Seemed excessive to me and it took a half a day to accomplish that task alone. But I have to admit that despite being under the weather by the end of the Day 22, Paul and Amber had accomplished a lot. The base cabinets were secured and many of the wall cabinets were in place.
The rest of the revised schedule:
- Keith, the painter and finish carpenter, will be here on Day 24 to smooth out the drywall and to paint the ceilings.
- The countertop contractor will be here on Day 24 to measure for the quartz countertop.
- The countertop will be delivered and installed on Day 34 (a Sunday?), but I suspect not really until Day 35 at the earliest.
- The tile work will be done by Jason himself after the countertop is in.
- Jason reiterated that “as originally scheduled” all work would be complete by March 5th (Day 56).
