And here is the picture to prove it!
Gastón showed up at 8:15 this morning ready to start the first day of sheet rocking. About an hour later Paul, the lead carpenter, arrived ready to install windows. Our kitchen has always been a challenge for two chefs to work in. I couldn’t imagine how two contractors with power tools would waltz around each other all day without coming to blows. We retreated to the safety of the basement.
Later in the morning the appliances (dishwasher and stove) arrived. They were offloaded into the living room so Gastón and Paul could avoid one additional obstacle.

Outdoor temps today barely made it above freezing. Paul was working alone in the cold until his wife, Amber, showed up to help. He hopes to have another helper tomorrow when he plans to install the remaining windows. Temps tomorrow are supposed to climb to near 50º so tomorrow will be a better day.
At the end of the day, we had no new windows. It seems the window of the day needed to be shifted 3 inches to the left. This requires structural changes to the existing header and jack studs (and you thought I didn’t know jack about framing!) So instead we have a boarded up window. Tomorrow is another day. But notice the sheetrock! The soffit cutouts have been repaired. The popcorn ceiling has been removed in the kitchen and the living room. A lot of work was accomplished today.
I like the pressed-board look…so much more practical than a window anyway. And natural! I’d just leave it the way it is…you can always come over to our house if you really must eat from time to time…
Actually, I’m praying that the remainder of the renovation goes smoothly!!
