Back when, we decided that a counter depth refrigerator made more sense that trying to stuff or old monster into the new space. So Betty ordered a new refrigerator on February 23. It was scheduled for delivery after the floors were refinished – March 19th. So almost a month of lead time.
While we were out of the house and traveling during the 4 days of floor refinishing we received almost daily updates from Lowes that delivery was scheduled for Monday, March 19th. We were impressed at their preparation diligence. Unduly impressed as it turned out. No refrigerator showed up.
In fact, Lowes lost it. Their state of the art tracking system reported that it had been loaded onto 1 of 19 possible delivery trucks at the distribution warehouse. From there . . . it vanished. None of their stores had a record of receipt.
Of course, in the meantime we’d donated the old refrigerator to the Habitat ReStore to get it out of the way during the floor refinishing. So as the Lowes folks were soon to learn, chillin’ was no longer possible. After a good deal of bitching and moaning Lowes agreed to reorder it and send out a loaner in the meantime. Delivery is now scheduled for April 9th. Their delivery guys asked why we’d ordered a baby for a space that would seem to accommodate a grown up refrigerator. Even they were incredulous when told that our grown up refrigerator had been lost in transit. “How do you lose a refrigerator?!”
