Day 80 – Poking the Bear

After her visit on Day 72, Diana has had enough. Late on Day 76 she sent a simple note passing along the owner’s email addresses. She announced that she will no longer be involved with this project and that all future contact should be with Justin (the owner). I obliged. I passed along a printout of the Day 72 “Renovation is NOT for sissies!” post.

Two days later we got a response from Justin. He indicated that he had been kept aware of “most” of the problems. I assume that meant that “some” of the problems were not shared with him. He acknowledged that things had “not gone as well as planned” on this job. A colossal understatement. Despite it all he assured us that The Bath Shop had a plan to make everything right. The Bath Shop will mount a massive, one-day effort by painters, cabinet makers, electricians and Bath Shop personnel on Day 80 to resolve all outstanding issues.

Good plan. Poorly executed. By the end of Day 80 the long delayed cabinet above the microwave was installed. Unfortunately, the installer discovered that the microwave oven itself was damaged during one or both of the 2 previous installation attempts. A replacement part will have to be ordered before it can be installed.

During the cabinet installation the above cabinet lights quit working. Another electrician will need to be summoned to fix that. One step forward, one back.

The new cabinet guy, James, determined that the glide track on the pullout cabinet that wouldn’t close was bent. A replacement track will need to be located and installed.

No shelf pegs have yet been located. No shelves were installed. No possibility of moving into the kitchen. Another day, another delay.

On the human relations front, Jason announced that he was no longer working with The Bath Shop. He was leaving “with Justin’s blessing and support” to start a new venture. He has been charged with finishing our project. The gods of good fortune are smiling upon us. Yes? No?

One the success front – the paint and trim problems were addressed. Accomplished without fuss or muss.
