Remember the saga of the lost refrigerator back on Day 73? Well the second refrigerator ordered through Lowe’s was supposed to be delivered April 9th. Guess what? History does repeat itself!
April 9th came and passed without a delivery. Dwight, Lowe’s assistant manager was as perplexed and frustrated as we were. To Lowe’s credit, he worked all day to track down what happened and why. It seems that Lowe’s ordered a truckload of refrigerators from the GE (now Haier) distribution center outside of Chicago. That truck arrived at the Lowe’s distribution center in Greensboro (a mere 45 miles away). From there the cargo was unloaded and divided up among a cadre of Lowe’s trucks for redistribution to Lowe’s stores up and down the eastern seaboard. No one checked to see if there was a special order refrigerator onboard. No one counted to compare the number of refrigerators on the truck to the number ordered for redistribution. So once again, Betty and John’s specially ordered refrigerator went missing likely to end up being deeply discounted as a one-off, ice-maker bereft oddity in some east coast backwater.
I’d had enough of Lowe’s. 6 weeks should be long enough for even the most incompetent company to get it right. In the meantime, Home Depot decided to put the same model one sale. So off to Home Depot I went. 2 days later it was delivered.

Meanwhile, the small refrigerator graciously delivered by Lowe’s as a loaner dejectedly sits in our living room, looking out the window, waiting to go home to Lowe’s. It is too pitiful to photograph.
