Day 85 – Final Kitchen Renovation Post

After another round of email messages with the owner of The Bath Shop the team arrived again on Day 85 with a renewed commitment to finish this project. Owing almost entirely to James’ effort, they mostly succeeded. Our planned 6-8 week kitchen renovation took 12 weeks.

Justin, The Bath Shop’s owner, made his first and only appearance on the final day. He complemented us on how beautiful the kitchen looked. Betty agreed, that it ‘looked’ great. She hastened to note that looks are often deceiving and shared some of our renovation highlights with him.

Now we can move out of the basement and back into the kitchen. We are also at a point that if The Bath Shop never returns we can simply turn a blind eye toward the remaining flaws. We certainly won’t be recommending The Bath Shop to anyone – friend or foe or sworn enemy.

The only major kitchen item remaining at this point is the delivery of the refrigerator on April 9th. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that Lowes won’t lose this one.

When I started this renovation blog I didn’t know how prophetic the “not for sissies” epithet was. It will take a couple of years or R&R before we are ready to undertake a similar project.

We are moving on to less noisy and dirty endeavors – refurnishing and redecorating the living room. We’ve selected two rugs, a ceiling fan and an entry way light fixture. No contractors necessary. Beth, the designer from Belladomus, is available for consultation and to gently guide our selections. She will keep us from doing anything tragic.

You’re done! Thanks for taking us on your journey with you. I think you’ve effectively persuaded me not to do a kitchen reno, at least not all at once.

The end result looks fantastic though, and I can’t wait to come visit and help celebrate! I’m sure you’re just happy to start getting your house back to yourselves 🙂

So happy to have the house back to ourselves! We cooked and ate our first full meal upstairs last night – with only minimal detours to the basement to find things that are still there 🙂 We are finding that we are really creatures of habit and it is hard to find places for everything in our new digs. John is being patient as I relocate things several times and keep buying more “organizers.” But it does look lovely – open & bright.

Hello, My Lovely People! I was just musing to myself that I should renovate more of my kitchen than I have intended (1960’s retro tile cubes on the floor, same old scuffed but durable counter tops, replace massive overhead microwave and stove fan combo with just a fan and a separate little microwave, and an antique corner cabinet in the corner (fancy that!) to house my overflow of cooking bowls, sugar and flour canisters, and tablecloths. Oh…and a new badly needed diswasher. I have planned this for a summer project. However, I greatly appreciate re-reading your blog. Mark will appreciate it, too. After this, I am sticking to my original plan and going no further! Thank you thank you thank you. Oh…and your kitchen LOOKS AMAZING! Love you, Cathy

Uhhh….dishwasher. However, we could all use a “dis” washer now and then.
